Inside Out

Helping LGBT who are incarcerated

The Inside Out Program is a coaching service by Behind the Curtain (BTC) CIC, designed to offer wellness support and life coaching to LGBTQ+ individuals on remand at Durham Prison. The program provides a safe and supportive space where participants can work through past trauma, set personal goals, and build resilience for the future.

Through mindfulness, meditation, accountability coaching, and life story work, the program helps individuals reconnect with their inner selves, embrace their identity, and develop the tools they need to overcome challenges and move forward with purpose.

Why the Inside Out Program Matters

LGBTQ+ individuals in prison often face additional layers of adversity, including discrimination, isolation, and the trauma of incarceration. For many, the experience of being incarcerated exacerbates existing emotional difficulties and creates new challenges. The Inside Out Program aims to address these issues by providing comprehensive wellness support and life coaching in a safe and inclusive environment. We believe that everyone deserves the opportunity to heal, grow, and create a positive future, regardless of their past or current circumstances.

By focusing on mindfulness, meditation, goal setting, and life story work, the program helps participants develop self awareness, resilience, and emotional strength. We work with individuals to ensure they feel empowered and supported as they transition through challenging moments in their lives and prepare for a brighter future.
